Our family business initially focused upon investment property. Having a long background in masonry, home rehabilitation and earth work (grading, digging ditches, foundations) allowed us to do most of the work for a property in-house.

We invest in the Warrenton and Culpeper areas but live in Oakton VA. All of the properties have gravel driveways and we needed a solution other than using landscape timbers to provide a border to retain the gravel on the driveway (not any different than retaining mulch in a landscape bed). We looked around and found that decorative concrete curbing was an ideal solution to this problem. We had never seen it before.

We bought a machine and started doing curbing on our properties. A lot of people drove by and the same people drove by again and again. They finally stopped, walked over and inquired “what is that?” and quickly followed up with “can you do curbing on my yard?”

That was in late 2020 and what started as a trickle of curbing jobs has necessitated us launching a division of our construction company called “Curbing by Design”.
